If someone's drinking
or drug use is bothering you, you aren't alone. There are a lot of
kids whose parents drink too much or use drugs. There is probably
someone else in your class at school someone you might not
think has a parent like yours. Remember that your parent's drinking
or drug use is not your fault. You can't stop them and you aren't
causing it. Alcoholism and addiction are diseases that you can't cure.
But you really
aren't alone. Find someone you trust who will talk to you. It could
be a teacher, a big brother, an aunt or uncle, a friend's parent,
a coach or a minister. If you need to call someone, call a help line
and talk to the person who answers the phone.
If you live around
Madison, Wisconsin, you can call the Helpline at 608-246-HELP (608-246-4357).
It's confidential, so they won't tell anyone you called unless you
tell them to. You can also go on-line for programs and organizations
who can help you.
